The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics services a population of over 3 million within the state of Iowa and surrounding states and has large inpatient and outpatient pulmonary services.

Dr. Comellas and his research staff of nurses, respiratory therapist and research assistants have over 18 years of experience conducting research study protocols and working with patients and subjects with lung disease. The study team has experience with medication studies, new device studies to treat pulmonary disease and observational studies.

Dr. Comellas and his staff see their subjects in the University of Iowa Clinical Research Unit (CRU). The study team meets with the study subjects and conduct the study visit. The CRU is a clinic that consists of a check in area, waiting room, 16 patient exam rooms, consult rooms, a 7-bed infusion suite and 9 inpatient beds. This area is staffed with nurses, medical assistants, respiratory therapists and a nutrition staff.
