How Do You Take Care of Yourself?

Staying up-to-date with your vaccinations and medical appointments helps you and your loved one stay healthy. Another important part of being a good caregiver is reaching out to your family and friends for help. Most people in your community want to help. They just don’t know how. By telling people what they can do to ease the burden, you will get the support you need so you can be a better caregiver.

  • Get enough sleep
  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Exercise
  • See your doctor and dentist for regular checkups
  • Stay up-to-date on your vaccinations

Make Time for You
Give yourself time to enjoy your life. Here are some suggested ways to take breaks from caregiving and recharge yourself:

  • Read a book or watch a movie
  • Take a nap or relax in a bath
  • Get a massage
  • Listen to music
  • Create a space in your home where you can retreat when needed

Lean on Your Support System

  • Accept help and use a caregiving community to help you organize your volunteers.
  • See family and friends: You might not feel like being social, but the company of family and friends can lift your spirits and help you through the day.
