CT Quit Support Clinical Partnerships for Tobacco Cessation

Empowering Connecticut’s healthcare and pharmacy teams to integrate evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment into routine care.

Partner with the American Lung Association

The American Lung Association is partnering with Connecticut health systems, clinics, community health centers, behavioral health providers, and pharmacists to strengthen tobacco dependence treatment and expand access to CT Quitline services across the state.

Through CT Quit Support, we provide clinical education, workflow integration, and team-based resources so every patient who uses commercial tobacco receives brief intervention and a clear path to quit.

Partnering to Integrate the CT Quitline into Routine Care

A central aim of CT Quit Support is to make referrals to the CT Quitline a standard part of clinical practice.

We offer:

    • Guidance to add CT Quitline referral options into EHR order sets or health maintenance
    • Workflow mapping to define who screens, who counsels, and who sends the referral
    • Follow-up strategies so teams can see outcomes and reinforce quit attempts
    • Overview of services, eligibility, languages, and hours
    • How to set quit expectations with patients and “warm transfer” when possible
    • Messaging that encourages patients to accept outreach from Quitline coaches
    • One-page CT Quitline referral guides for clinicians and care teams
    • Promotional materials to reinforce provider messages
    • Pharmacy-specific materials that highlight the referral process and available support

Supporting Partners Who Support CT Communities

CT Quit Support prioritizes equitable access to evidence-based cessation services.

  • Medicaid/HUSKY members
  • Individuals with behavioral health or substance use conditions
  • Pregnant and postpartum people
  • Youth and young adults who use tobacco or vape
  • Communities disproportionately targeted by commercial tobacco marketing

Clinical education and materials are adapted to support community members, with a focus on evidence-based, proven effective and culturally appropriate, person-first language to reduce barriers and stigma.
