Medicare Coverage & Costs

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals aged 65 years and older and certain younger people with disabilities.

2025 is an exciting year for the Medicare program as a number of changes to coverage and costs will take effect. These changes, like the $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs in Medicare Part D, were implemented to protect patients. It is even more important to shop around during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period to find a drug plan that best fits your needs. Even if you are happy with your current Medicare coverage, keep in mind that Medicare Advantage and Medicare supplemental health and drug plans can make changes each year (things like cost, coverage, and what providers and pharmacies are in their networks) so it’s always best to check each year which plan is best for you.

It was a drizzly, rainy night, and there had been several accidents, requiring detours. A car pulled out in front of us, causing a severe accident. I sustained broken ribs, a broken knee, and a broken ankle. When I was rushed to the hospital for body scans, they discovered the lung cancer. It's so important for people with lung cancer to have access to good health care because you never know what will happen. Cancer is an evil disease, and part of the challenge of having a terminal illness like lung cancer is affording the medication needed to live a better lifestyle. Everyone enrolled in Medicare should talk with their pharmacist about whether spreading out their costs makes sense for them. Different people have different health care needs, and the Medicare prescription drug plan does not suit everyone. Planning and spreading out costs over the year would help me and my family. What I want people to understand is that when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.
