Are You Eligible for Lung Cancer Screening?

Lung cancer screening can help find cancer before a person has symptoms. Early detection is important because lung cancer is easier to treat in its early stages before it has spread. If you meet the following criteria, you are considered to be “high risk” for developing lung cancer and screening is recommended:

  • 55-80 years of age
  • Have a 30 pack-year history of smoking (this means 1 pack a day for 30 years, 2 packs a day for 15 years, etc.)
  • AND, are a current smoker, or have quit within the last 15 years

At this time, there is not enough evidence to show that screening is recommended for other groups. Talk to your doctor about screening if you meet these criteria.
