This study found a critically important protein called Survival Factor A, which plays an important role in the fungal infection caused by A. nidulans. This is important because A. nidulans poses great risk in immunodeficient patients with chronic granulomatous disease, and this finding can help improve future treatments and survival. Co-author Steven P. Templeton, PhD, was awarded the Lung Association Innovation Award.
