Linking Severe COVID-19 to Lung Cancer

In Su Cheon, PhD, of University of Virginia, found that patients previously hospitalized with severe COVID-19 had a higher likelihood of subsequent lung cancer. Her study revealed viral pneumonia can leave a lasting “epigenetic imprint” on the lung, creating a pro-tumor environment marked by persistent inflammation and immune suppression.
