Study finds that metabolically active immune cells fuel tuberculosis bacteria

This study found that certain neutrophils, a type of immune cell, in the lungs of tuberculosis patients have higher metabolic activity, which helps the bacteria survive and thrive. This is important because targeting these metabolic pathways could lead to a new tuberculosis treatment. Senior author Lu Huang, PhD, received a Lung Association Catalyst Award for their work in developing a new tuberculosis vaccine.
