This study found that deleting a specific gene in mice with a viral protein from HTLV-1 (human T-cell leukemia virus type 1) leads to the development of tumors in the adrenal glands, while preventing others, showing how the virus causes cancer. Understanding these gene interactions helps determine how the HTLV-1 virus causes cancer, leading to better treatments and insights into similar processes in lung health. Senior Author Dr. Zaoxia Qu received a Lung Cancer Discovery Award.
