Study shows how overactive immune systems may weaken the body’s ability to fight infection.

This study discovered that a type of immune cell in the lungs helps to control the body’s response to flu-like infections, which could improve survival during such infections. This is important because it shows how certain cells in our lungs prevent an overactive immune response, which could help guide future treatments to protect lung health during respiratory infections. First author Jason W. Griffith, PhD, received a Lung Association Biomedical Research Grant.
