Rain Didn’t Stop the Mission: Over $137K Raised for LUNG FORCE Walk in Wheaton’s Cantigny Park

Funds raised will help support research, advocacy and education to Illinoisians with lung disease

Rain and wind forced the American Lung Association to cancel this morning’s LUNG FORCE Walk, presented by Northwestern Medicine. The Walk was scheduled to wind its way through the trails of Wheaton’s Cantigny Park.

While the weather forced the cancellation of the walk, 650 supporters, teams, and sponsors raised more than $137,000 in the weeks leading up to the event. The funds raised will help raise awareness and education for nearly 1.8 million Illinoisians living with lung disease.

“While we are disappointed that the weather prevented us from walking together, the generosity and dedication of our community truly shined,” said Danielle Trojanek, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago. “Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and community members, we raised over $137,000 for the Lung Association. These critical funds will go towards programs, education, advocacy, and research to support the search for a lung cancer cure, the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. Because if you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.”

The Lung Association looks forward to next year’s LUNG FORCE Walk and to continuing its commitment to improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
