Get Ready to Hit the Trail: 3rd Annual Gulf Coast Bike Trek Returns October 18

American Lung Association’s cycling fundraiser along the Pinellas Trail is open to cyclists of all levels, families and kids

The American Lung Association in Florida will host its 3rd annual Gulf Coast Bike Trek on Saturday, October 18. New this year, the Trek will start at John R. Lawrence Pioneer Park and feature three scenic Pinellas Trail rides through Dunedin and Tarpon Springs. The event is known for its celebratory and welcoming atmosphere, with a focus on supporting children’s lung health.

“Pediatric pulmonary diseases, like childhood asthma and RSV, take a toll on our most vulnerable. Here in Tampa, nearly 40,000 children have been diagnosed with asthma, which is one of the most common illness-related reasons kids miss school,” said David Oras, Gulf Coast Bike Trek event chair, member of the Lung Association’s Gulf Coast Leadership Board and IT Director at Raymond James. “With the Gulf Coast Bike Trek, we’re committed to raising awareness of pediatric lung health and are inviting our Tampa Bay community to join us in making every mile count.”

The Gulf Coast Bike Trek is designed for cyclists of all experience levels—from veteran cyclists to novice riders and families. It offers three scenic courses along the Pinellas Trail: a 62-mile metric century ride for avid cyclists, a 40-mile ride for adventure-seekers and a 10-mile ride for families and children. The Trek features top-notch rider support, plentiful rest stops and an unforgettable party at the finish line with food, music and more.

Registration is $25 for the 10-mile family ride and $40 for the 62-mile and 40-mile rides. There is a $200 fundraising minimum to participate. 90 cents of every dollar raised supports lifesaving lung health research, education and programming.
