Northside Hospital Supports Lung Health, COVID-19 Initiative in Atlanta

Today, the American Lung Association in Georgia announced that Northside Hospital has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the Atlanta LUNG FORCE Run/Walk and Scavenger Hunt.

This year’s event will include a virtual 5K run/walk that will be conducted through the Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE app from now through November 30, and a socially distanced scavenger hunt that will take place in downtown City of Decatur. The scavenger hunt kicked off yesterday and also runs through November 30.

“Through events like the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk, we are able to fund our work to improve air quality, educate residents on lung health and COVID-19, and help people who live with lung disease,” said Rochelle Smalls, executive director for the Lung Association. “But we can’t do it alone. Our partnership with Northside Hospital helps us provide vital support to the Atlanta community and residents throughout Georgia. From funding asthma education, to providing resources to those suffering from lung cancer, this support makes people’s lives better every day.”

Northside is an extensive network of state-of-the-art facilities staffed with skilled, caring professionals who are dedicated to the health and wellness of the communities they serve. Northside physicians and other health care professionals provide a full range of care including: surgery, cancer care, women's services, emergency care, outpatient services and behavioral health services.

“It is key to our company mission to support the communities where our employees work and live. The American Lung Association’s work to support clean air and healthy lungs affects us all, so we are proud to be involved with the Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE Run/Walk and Scavenger Hunt,” said Dr. Howard Silverboard, Medical Director of Thoracic Oncology and the Lung Cancer Screening Program for Northside Hospital. “We hope to see our community come together virtually for a fun and inspiring event.”

Money raised at the Virtual LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.

Registration for the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk is $35, which includes the virtual Run/Walk and the scavenger hunt. Residents can get more information and register at the Atlanta LUNG FORCE Run/Walk website.
