Lung Association Invites Medical Community to Learn Latest in Lung Cancer Care at Free Event on September 9

North Carolina Community Connections: Lung Cancer Patient Identification, Screening, and Biomarker Testing will feature experts from Duke University, University of North Carolina and WakeMed

The American Lung Association in North Carolina and partners are inviting members of the medical community to attend the latest North Carolina Community Connections on Tuesday, September 9 at Mez Contemporary Mexican in Durham. The free educational event will feature a multi-disciplinary panel of physicians and surgeons from Duke University, University of North Carolina and WakeMed. Topics include lung cancer patient identification, screening, biomarker testing and treatment options, with a focus on best practices and overcoming challenges. There will be dedicated time for networking. Hors d' oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

North Carolina Community Connections is an educational speaker series focused on the prevention of lung disease and the advancement of lung health. This event is for medical providers in primary care, medical oncology, pulmonary, thoracic surgery, fellows, medical students, APP students and nurse navigators. Others in the healthcare field are welcome to attend.

WHY: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., and anyone can get this disease. In North Carolina, nearly 9,000 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year alone. However, there is hope. Thanks to advancements in lung cancer detection and treatment, the survival rate has increased by 44% in the past decade.
