Massachusetts Turns Turquoise for Lung Cancer Awareness During Turquoise Takeover

American Lung Association illuminates buildings and landmarks in turquoise, shares stories of those impacted to raise awareness of lung cancer

The American Lung Association is turning Boston, Massachusetts turquoise this May 5-11, 2025, to raise awareness about lung cancer, honor those impacted and encourage residents to take action to help end the disease.

The annual Lung Cancer Action Week and Turquoise Takeover celebration unites America to stand together to end lung cancer. Each year, the American Lung Association turns the nation turquoise—the signature color of LUNG FORCE—by illuminating buildings and landmarks across the U.S., encouraging the public to wear turquoise and share their support on social media and highlighting the stories of those impacted by lung cancer to inspire hope and save lives

Here in Massachusetts, the Lung Association is illuminating major landmarks and buildings turquoise, Basketball Hall of Fame, One Post office/River Wharf, and Framingham City Hall.  In addition, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey issued a proclamation honoring Lung Cancer Action Week.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said, “Far too many Massachusetts residents lose their lives to lung cancer. We are fortunate that, thanks in large part due to lifesaving research, innovation and care that happens right here in Massachusetts, the survival rate has improved significantly. But everybody can play a role in raising awareness of the importance of early screening and detection, which further improves survival outcomes. Lung Cancer Action Week is an important opportunity to get the word out, and our administration is proud to support this week and encourage everyone to wear Turquoise!"

“In 2025 alone, it is estimated that 5,300 Massachusetts residents will be diagnosed with lung cancer. But there is hope,” said Ashley Carrier, Executive Director for the American Lung Association. “Thanks to advancements in early detection, treatment and research, the five-year survival rate has improved by 44% over the past decade. Raising awareness and funds for lung cancer research is more important than ever and we encourage our community to get involved in Turquoise Takeover.”
