The American Lung Association in New York is celebrating 10 years of the LUNG FORCE Walk Hudson Valley, and the incredible impact it has had on the local community, lung cancer survivors, and their families. This year’s LUNG FORCE Walk will be held on June 14, 2025, at Manhattanville University. The event will honor Dr. Stephanie Smith-Marrone, Medical Site Director at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Cancer Center, for her leadership in lung cancer treatment and compassionate patient care.
Since its inception, the LUNG FORCE Walk Hudson Valley has raised more than $900,000 to support lung cancer research, early detection programs, and awareness efforts. This year, the event is in position to hit the $1 million milestone!
The event will feature both a 1-mile and a 2-mile walking route around the beautiful campus, and we encourage participants to register TODAY at LUNGFORCE.org/HudsonValley. Many participants join to walk in honor of a loved one or just want to get active for a cause, this is a great way for individuals, families, and corporate teams to come together and show their support.
This year’s Medical Honoree, Dr. Stephanie Smith-Marrone, is a distinguished lung cancer specialist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University and Medical Site Director of the NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Cancer Center. Dr. Smith-Marrone is recognized for her outstanding work in both lung and head/neck cancer care, her dedication to improving the quality of life for patients, and her drive to innovate in the field of oncology.
Dr. Smith-Marrone said, "I am so honored to be the medical honoree for this year's Lung Force Walk Hudson Valley! We have more work to do in the fight against lung cancer, but many new and effective treatment options have meant my patients are living longer and with less side effects. Supporting medical research and patient advocacy groups like the American Lung Association is crucial to prevention and advancing the care of patients with lung cancer and lung disease."
“Thanks to the dedication of our amazing volunteers and participants, the LUNG FORCE Walk Hudson Valley has raised over $900,000 to help end lung cancer. This year, we’re excited to take this milestone even further with your support,” said Erica Masin, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Metro New York. “Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., but we’ve made huge strides. More people than ever are surviving lung cancer, and the survival rate has increased by over 50% in the past decade. By participating in this year’s walk, we’re getting closer to ensuring a future where lung cancer is no longer a leading killer.”
The LUNG FORCE Walk Hudson Valley is supported by local and regional sponsors including Northwell Health, White Plains Hospital, and NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester. Funds raised through the event will benefit the American Lung Association's mission to defeat lung cancer, improve air quality, and reduce tobacco-related diseases.
Registration is now open at LUNGFORCE.org/HudsonValley.
