Lung Cancer Fighter to be Keynote Speaker at 2024 LUNG FORCE Gala

Jenny Johnson hopes her story will inspire others to be proactive with their lung health

Get ready to glam up for a good cause. The 2024 LUNG FORCE Gala returns to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on May 2. This year’s keynote speaker is Jenny Johnson, a lung cancer fighter and lung health advocate who has made it her mission to inspire others to be proactive with their lung health.

Five years ago, Johnson was diagnosed with lung cancer despite not meeting the criteria for any risk factors. Current research has found that the rate of women with no prior lung health concerns developing lung cancer has been steady increasing over the years. Johnson hopes sharing her story can help break the stigma surrounding lung cancer plus highlight the importance of paying attention to lung health.

Currently, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. More than 374,000 Kansans and over 818,000 people in Missouri are living with a chronic lung disease. The LUNG FORCE Gala will raise funds for local lung health programs such as Saved by the Scan, a Lung Association initiative that encourages individuals to undergo lung screenings. Early detection is a critical process for increasing the survival rate for lung cancer.

“Lung cancer is one of the deadliest but least funded diseases, but I believe we have the power to change that,” said Johnson. “The funds raised at this year’s LUNG FORCE Gala will be critical for moving forward towards a future free from lung disease. I hope my story not only impresses upon the community the importance of looking out for their own health, but the urgency of funding lung health programs as a whole.”
