Metro-Dade Firefighters IAFF Local 1403 to Fuel the Fight For Air at Lung Association Climb

Family-friendly event returns to loanDepot park on March 1

Metro-Dade Firefighters IAFF Local 1403 has stepped up once again to be the presenting sponsor for the American Lung Association in Miami’s Annual Fight For Air Climb. The family-friendly event will take place on Sunday March 1st at loanDepot Park, Home of the Miami Marlins.

Metro-Dade Firefighters IAFF Local 1403 has served as a presenting sponsor of the Climb since the event’s debut twenty-two years ago.

Firefighters are regularly exposed to smoke, gases, chemicals, and other substances that can be damaging to their lungs, putting them at an increased risk for lung disease. The lung health effects from firefighting include lingering cough, hoarseness, asthma, and bronchitis. Extreme cases include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung and bronchial cancers.

Individuals, families and corporate teams will climb up and down 1,700 stadium stairs to not only help find a cure for lung disease but to raise awareness and critical funds for programs and services to help the 2.8 million Floridians living with lung disease.

“Metro-Dade Firefighters IAFF Local 1403 is proud to again be the presenting sponsor for this year’s annual Fight For Air Climb,” said William McAllister IV, President of Metro-Dade Firefighters IAFF Local 1403. “We’re happy to work with the American Lung Association to raise awareness for lung health and the event highlights our commitment to building healthier communities.”

Climbers of all fitness levels from ages 10 and up are welcome to challenge themselves and make their way around the bottom deck of loanDepot Park.

“2.8 million Floridians are fighting for every breath. At our climb on March 1 people can literally step up to help find a cure for lung disease.” said Hernan Millan, FVP, Commercial Banking Relationship Manager III with Amerant Bank, and board member of the Lung Association in Florida. “Funds raised will go to local services, programs and research we provide throughout South Florida.”

The first wave of climbers will begin making their way through loanDepot park at 7:45 a.m.

Registration for the Fight For Air Climb Miami is $35 and includes a $100 fundraising minimum. For more information, and to register, visit ClimbMiami.org.
