APRIL 25: Hundreds Set to Climb 34 Floors for Lung Health in Fight For Air Climb at Hartford 21

Lung Association event supports local efforts to end lung disease and support clean air

Media is asked to save the date for the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb Hartford. The family-friendly event will take place on Saturday April 25 at the iconic Hartford 21. Climbers of all fitness levels, ages 8 and up, will make their way to the top of the high-rise starting at 9 a.m. in support of lung health and clean air.

Individuals, families, corporate teams and firefighters in full gear will climb up 34 floors totaling 688 steps to not only help find a cure for lung disease but raise awareness and critical funds to help nearly 480,000 people living with lung disease in Connecticut.

“We’re excited for the community to come together for the Fight For Air Climb Hartford,” said Daniel Miramontes, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Connecticut. “Funds raised will go to local services, programs, advocacy and research we provide here in Connecticut.”

This year’s climb will once again feature a friendly Firefighter Challenge with firefighters from across Connecticut competing for the best time.

Firefighters are regularly exposed to smoke, gases, chemicals, and other substances that can be damaging to their lungs, putting them at an increased risk for lung disease. The lung health effects from firefighting include lingering cough, hoarseness, asthma, and bronchitis. Extreme cases include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung and bronchial cancers.

Climbers are set to start climbing at 9 a.m., and continue in waves through 11:30 a.m. We hope to see you at the top! …because if you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.

Registration for the Fight For Air Climb Hartford is $35 and includes a $100 fundraising minimum. Day-of registration is $50 and also includes a $100 fundraising minimum. For more information, and to register, visit FightForAirClimb.org/Hartford
