DES MOINES, IA | January 23, 2020
EMC Insurance Companies is working to improve the health of the community and their employees. The company signed on as presenting sponsor for the American Lung Association in Iowa’s Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Des Moines on March 29. EMC is returning for their second year as presenting sponsor and celebrating their 10th year as a building partner for the multi-building stair climb.
Through the partnership, the company hosts part of the event in two of its buildings in downtown Des Moines and provides monetary support to fund awareness for lung disease, life-saving research, and critical programs to help local children better manage their asthma and help locals quit smoking.
EMC also encourages employees to participate in the event through its company team. Last year, the team had 53 members. Some team members participate to honor a loved one who has suffered from lung disease or lung cancer, and others climb for the physical challenge.
“I lost my husband to lung cancer in 2002. So many other families and friends have been touched by lung cancer and other lung diseases. Climbing stairs (whether it’s 1 or 4 buildings) seems like a very small thing I can do to help,” said Kay Kreider, EMC climber for 12 years.
“It’s something my kids and I can do together. It’s a good challenge for all of us, and they love it,” said Michelle Meinecke, EMC climber for 7 years.
“Several of my family members have suffered from lung disease. The Fight for Air Climb is a fun, physically challenging event that supports a cause very important to me,” said Christine Brandenburg, EMC climber for 11 years.
EMC is in the top 60 property and casualty insurance organizations in the U.S. based on net written premium and is one of the largest in Iowa. Founded in 1911, the company has more than 2,400 employees and provides property and casualty insurance products and services throughout the U.S.
The Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Des Moines, happening on March 29, invites individuals, families, groups of friends, corporate teams and first responders to step up the stairs of four of the tallest buildings in Iowa. Registration for the 2019 Fight For Air Climb is currently open online or by calling 615-510-3552.
