Fighting For Air: Charlotte Community Raises $105,000 for Lung Health

More than 150 people participated in the American Lung Association’s 11th annual stair-climb fundraiser at The VUE

This morning, during the American Lung Association’s 11th annual Fight For Air Climb Charlotte, more than 150 lung health advocates climbed 50 floors, 883 steps, to the top of The VUE. The event raised $105,000, and counting, to support the Lung Association’s lifesaving research, programming and advocacy in North Carolina and beyond.

“For the past eleven years, the Charlotte community has united to climb for our loved ones and neighbors who are impacted by lung disease. They struggle every day for the breath that many of us take for granted,” said Markus Hill, chair of the Lung Association’s North Carolina Board and chief information officer, Rodgers Builders. “Thank you to our participants, firefighters and first responders, volunteers and sponsors who came out today to raise $105,000 to save lives—with more funds still coming in. Every step we’ve taken today gets us closer to a future free of lung cancer and lung disease.”

Angela Town, who has participated in all eleven Charlotte Fight For Air Climbs, received the “Mike Smith Mission Ambassador Award” for her longstanding commitment to lung health.

Funds raised from the Fight For Air Climb support the mission of the American Lung Association and its efforts to defeat lung cancer, champion clean air, improve the quality of life for those with lung disease and their families and create a tobacco-free future.
