The American Lung Association’s Annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek Through Cape Cod Returns for 42nd Year September 25-27, 2026

The American Lung Association is announcing the return of its for its 42nd annual Autumn Escape Bike Trek, taking place September 25-27, 2026 across Cape Cod. The multi-day cycling event invites participants of all skill levels to ride 1, 2, or 3-days, covering distances from 25 – 155 miles in support of our mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

The Autumn Escape Bike Trek brings together more than 300 riders and volunteers each year and aims to raise over $240,000 to fund lifesaving research, advocacy and education initiatives, including efforts to end lung cancer, improve air quality, prevent youth vaping and supporting those living with chronic lung disease such as asthma and COPD.   

To date, the event has raised over $2.2 million over the last 12 years to advance lung health programs and services in our communities and across the nation.

The fully supported cycling event begins in Sandwich, Massachusetts, and includes hosted rest stops throughout Cape Cod, including South Dennis, Hyannis, Falmouth, and Barnstable. Riders can choose from multiple route options, including scenic road and gravel segments. Participants also enjoy a full event experience including a festival style Pedal Palooza, A finish-line celebration and  winner’s circle event, and a lobster closing dinner.

In addition to the in-person event, there is an option to participate virtually. Trekkers can sign up on the website, record miles from the comfort of their own neighborhood or stationary bike at their own pace, and by raising their minimum by September 25 will earn a commemorative t-shirt and medal. 

The Autumn Escape Bike Trek is designed for cyclists of all experience levels and is open to participants aged 7 and up with adult supervision required for children under 18. The Trek welcomes both seasoned and first-time riders with flexible distances and a supportive environment.
