AdventHealth Supports Lung Health, COVID-19 Action Initiative in Orlando

Local hospital system named presenting sponsor of the Lung Association’s Lip Sync For Lungs event

Today, the American Lung Association in Florida announced that AdventHealth has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the Orlando Lip Sync For Lungs event, set for November 11. This is the second year that the company has sponsored the event.

At Lip Sync For Lungs, local celebrities execute lip sync performances to songs of their choice, all to win the top spot of Lip Sync Battle Champion. For this year’s event, residents will have two options to participate – drive-in movie theater live stream viewing at Ace Cafe in Downtown Orlando or a live stream ticket option to view from the safety of your home.

“Through events like the Lip Sync for Lungs, we are able to fund our work to improve air quality, educate residents on lung health and COVID-19, and help people who live with lung disease,” said Janelle Hom, executive director for the Lung Association. “But we can’t do it alone. Our partnership with AdventHealth helps us provide vital support to the Orlando community and residents throughout Florida. From funding asthma education, to providing resources to those suffering from lung cancer, this support makes people’s lives better every day.”

On top of being presenting sponsor for the Lip Sync For Lungs, AdventHealth staff is participating. Dr. June Kim, transplant pulmonologist, and her colleague Barry Friedman, Executive Director of the AdventHealth Transplant Institute, are performing in the lip sync battle.

“It is key to our company mission to support the communities where so many of our employees work and live. The American Lung Association’s work to support clean air and healthy lungs affects us all, so we are proud to be involved with the Lung Association’s Lip Sync For Lungs,” said Dr. June Kim, Lung Transplant Pulmonologist at AdventHealth. We will continue to support covid-19 research, initiatives to support patients with lung disease, and advocate to protect young people from lung damage from vaping. We hope to see our community come together virtually for a fun and inspiring event.”

AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division encompasses 21 hospitals and provides lung transplant in the seven counties in and surrounding metro Orlando: Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Polk, Lake, Volusia and Flagler. The Central Florida Division’s care network also includes more than 30 Centra Care urgent-care centers; dozens of sports-rehab and imaging centers; and hundreds of physicians, ranging from primary care to a full spectrum of specialties.

Money raised at the Lip Sync For Lungs will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
