American Lung Association’s Annual LUNG FORCE Walk National Capitol to Offer In-Person and Virtual Events to Support Lung Health, COVID-19 Action—Initiative

Registration for the LUNG FORCE National Capital is now OPEN

Registration is now open for the  American Lung Association's annual LUNG FORCE Walk National Capital. After being moved online last year, due to COVID-19, the beloved community event will take place at Thomas Jefferson Memorial. as an outdoor, in-person event on Sunday, October 24, 2021, check-in beginning at 8:00 a.m. with walk starting at 9:00 a.m.  The event will support research, advocacy and education for lung diseases, lung cancer and COVID-19. All participants will be required to follow local and current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.

The LUNG FORCE Walk National Capital is in its 4th year, with in-person participants completing the easy 1.9-mile loop through natural and cultural treasures—circling the Tidal Basin, this trail provides views of the Roosevelt and MLK Memorials as well as the famed Cherry Blossom trees.  Participants can also opt to “Walk Your Way,” and participate by walking in their own neighborhoods, tracking their activity online through the new LUNG FORCE app (available for Android or iPhone). In addition to the Walk, the event will include an array of interactive activities that promote lung-health awareness.

“Through events like the LUNG FORCE Walk National Capital, we are able to continue our work to improve air quality, educate residents on lung health and COVID-19, and support people who live with lung cancer and lung disease,” said Lynda Neef, development director for the Lung Association in the District. “That mission has never been more important than it is today, and we are looking forward to rallying our local LUNG FORCE community to advance this work that makes people’s lives better every day.”

Money raised at the LUNG FORCE Walk will support the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.

The LUNG FORCE Walk National Capital is sponsored by Inova Health. There is no registration fee for the Walk, but donations are encouraged. We encourage in-person walkers to register in advance. The registration deadline for the in-person event is October 22, 2021. More information and registration are available at LUNGFORCE.org/nationalcapital
