Associations between proximity to gas production activity in counties and birth outcomes across the US

This study found that increases in natural gas development such as fracking is linked to low birth weight of infants especially those born to Black women. This is important because it shows that natural gas development has negative impact on the health of infants, with the greatest effect in infants born to minoritized women. Senior author Summer Hawkins, PhD was awarded the Lung Association Public Policy award.
