Marcia Goldberg and Michael Filbin were co-authors on this study which explains why COVID-19 causes severe inflammation in some people, which may lead to acute respiratory distress and multi-organ damage. These findings may explain why treatment with monoclonal antibodies tend to work only when given early in infection. Marcia Goldberg, M.D., is a current grantee of the Lung Association COVID-19 Respiratory Virus Research Award.
