Appeals Court Decision Against Arkansas Medicaid Work Requirements a Victory for Millions on Medicaid

– Statement of Harold P. Wimmer, National President and CEO of the American Lung Association, in response to today’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia against Arkansas’ Medicaid Work Requirements:

“Today’s decision is a victory for millions of patients in the Medicaid program, including those with lung disease, whose access to care is threatened by work reporting requirements. This unanimous decision reaffirms that the purpose of the Medicaid program is to provide healthcare coverage and that only Congress, not the Administration, has the authority to change that objective. The Lung Association will continue to advocate for patients with lung disease by opposing any policies – including the Administration’s recent block grant guidance – that will similarly jeopardize coverage in the Medicaid program.”
