Local Business Leader Returns To Chair Lung Association’s Leadership Board

Hernan Millan, of Amerant Bank, will drive the Lung Association’s efforts to improve lung health and prevent lung disease in Florida and beyond

Today, the American Lung Association in Florida named Hernan Millan Chair of the South Florida Leadership Board. Millan, who has been involved with the Lung Association for more than a decade, previously served as chair from 2019 to 2021. The Amerant Bank executive takes the helm from Mark Hauser, MD. As chair, Millan will continue driving the Lung Association’s lifesaving efforts, advocating for lung health and increasing resources to fund programs and services.

“I’d like to thank my fellow board members for entrusting me with this position once again—it is an honor,” said Millan. “I am committed to serving our communities and am energized by this new opportunity to further our mission of creating a world free of lung cancer and lung disease.”

Millan is a leader with nearly two decades of experience in South Florida’s banking industry. He currently serves as First Vice President, Business Liaison Leader at Amerant Bank. He holds a law degree and a master’s in international economics business law. Additionally, he attended the Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle, Washington with a focus on management of financial institutions and studied credit analysis and financial accounting with The Risk Management Association.

“Hernan has been key in expanding our impact here in Florida. During his previous tenure as board chair, he cultivated critical relationships and enabled our board and committees to reach greater levels of engagement,” said Chrissy Cohen, executive director at the Lung Association in Florida. “We are grateful for his continued leadership and look forward to advancing our lifesaving mission in his next term.”

Cohen added: “We are thankful to Dr. Mark Hauser, our immediate past chair, for his leadership and significant contributions to our South Florida initiatives.”

Dr. Hauser completed his two-year term as board chair on June 30. Now retired, he served the South Florida community as a pulmonologist for decades. He most recently served as president of medical staff affairs for Baptist Health.
