Registration Opens for 47th Annual Radnor Run, in partnership with Penn Medicine: Join Hundreds of Participants Running for Lung Health

Local Lung Association Research Award Recipient and Lung Champions to Kick Off Race

Established in 1977, the Radnor Run, is a celebrated tradition for local runners and the community. Registration is now open for the iconic 47th annual race, taking place this year on Sunday, October 27 at 8:00 a.m.

The American Lung Association 2024 event held in partnership with Penn Medicine takes place at the Radnor Township Building & Grounds with a fundraising goal of $110,000 to support research, advocacy and education for lung diseases, including lung cancer, COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. In just the past five years, the Radnor Run has raised $477,224 to support lung health, with a goal to raise an additional $110,000 at this year’s event.

Participants can choose between completing a timed and certified 5-mile race on a challenging course through the beautiful backroads of Wayne, PA; or a 1-Mile Run in which all finishers receive a medal. The event also offers an untimed 2-Mile Trail Walk for adults and youths of all ages on the scenic and stroller/wheelchair accessible Radnor Trail (run the 5 or 1-Mile race and join your friends and family on the Trail Walk). Registrants can also opt to participate virtually in their own neighborhoods. All registered participants are encouraged to follow the Facebook page for training tips and event updates.

"Since 1977, the Radnor Run has been a cornerstone of our community, drawing participants from near and far while playing a vital role in raising awareness and funds for lung health and lung diseases such as lung cancer, asthma, and other respiratory conditions,” said Caroline Hutchinson, Executive Director at the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania. “With 46,225 adults and 12,383 children in Delaware County alone living with asthma, our runners have a profound understanding of the significance of lung health and the necessity of breathing well. This event is essential for advancing lung health and improving the quality of the air we all share.”

Money raised through the Radnor Run supports the mission of the American Lung Association including lung disease research. Last year, the Lung Association funded $13.6 million for 129 projects to advance today’s science to end lung disease tomorrow, including a $200,000 COVID-19 Respiratory Virus Research Award to Radnor Township resident and 2024 Radnor Run participant, Hersh Sagreiya, MD from Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Over the past five years the Lung Association has awarded $1,625,000 to local lung disease research at Temple Lung Center, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Pennsylvania and The Wistar Institute.

“It is inspiring to see the collaboration and advocacy behind this effort come to life, all in support of driving advancements in respiratory health,” added Jason Christie, MD, MS, chief of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care with Penn Medicine.

Participation and donations also support local advocacy and education for clean air, tobacco use including vaping, COVID-19, COPD, lung cancer and asthma.
