Maimonides Health Rejoins the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE Walk New York as Top Sponsor

Event Welcomes Back WJMS Media, owned by LUNG FORCE HERO Jaymie Bowles, as Raise Your Voice Media Sponsor

The American Lung Association announced today Maimonides Health is again joining the annual LUNG FORCE Walk New York City, as a Silver Sponsor, while WJMS Media will take up the mantle of Raise Your Voice Media Sponsor. Each has committed to help the Lung Association raise awareness and provide education for participants and the Metro New York region on lung disease and lung cancer. The LUNG FORCE Walk New York City will take place at the South Street Seaport on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 9:30am-1pm. The Walk will support research, advocacy and education for lung cancer and other chronic lung diseases with a fundraising goal of raising $230,000.

“Our LUNG FORCE Walk aims to bring awareness to lung disease, and honor all those who have experienced lung disease, either personally or through a loved one,” said Emily Amitin, Development Manager, for the American Lung Association in Metro New York. “Sponsors like Maimonides Health and WJMS Media empower us to broaden our reach, develop quality education and advocacy programs, and execute a truly fun and rewarding event for our community. We are so grateful to them for playing a part in our mission to save lives by improving lung health.”

Participants joining the LUNG FORCE Walk New York City in person will complete a one or three-mile route that starts and finishes at the South Street Seaport, Pier 16, with views of the Brooklyn Bridge, One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. The event will also include an impactful opening ceremony where LUNG FORCE Heroes, like Jaymie Bowles, will share their stories, a fitness warm-up, the opportunity to complete a LUNG FORCE Action passport that encourages lung health education, and a Party on the Pier after the walk!  Money raised at the LUNG FORCE Walk will fund the Lung Association’s annual research, education and advocacy efforts for lung cancer, chronic lung diseases and COVID-19.

“Our fundamental commitment to reducing the number of lung cancer deaths in Brooklyn began with our distinction of being the first hospital in the borough to offer a Lung Cancer Screening program,” says Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “Our value of the importance of screening is matched only by our dedication to lung cancer treatment, with a team of experts that offer new hope to patients with latest in immunotherapies and targeted biological therapies that are an alternative to chemotherapy, targeted radiation therapy, minimally invasive surgery options and access to clinical trials.”

Jaymie Bowles, lung cancer survivor and LUNG FORCE Walk participant said, “I am so excited for this event for 3 reasons. First, it is back in person, which is something we have all been wanting. The energy of the crowd is always contagious and awe-inspiring. Second, my media company, WJMS Media, is able to be a part of this huge day for scientific research and development and I am grateful that I have a platform that is founded on a love for health and wellness. And third, because as a lung cancer warrior myself, I am humbled by the hard work of organizations like the American Lung Association to keep ME in the fight!” Bowles is the owner of WJMS Media, the Raise Your Voice Sponsor of the LUNG FORCE Walk New York.

The Lung Association has long-been the trusted champion for lung health. More than 115 years ago, the organization pioneered the model of using education, advocacy and research to virtually eradicate tuberculosis in the U.S. Using these same principles, the Lung Association works to save lives by improving lung health and ending all lung diseases, including COVID-19.
