Fight for Air Climb: Hundreds of New Yorkers to join the American Lung Association to Raise Funds and Awareness for Lung Disease at PENN1

Local First Responders and Firefighters to Climb with 50lbs of Gear

Here in New York State, there are more than 2.3  million people living with lung disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and others. To help fund the American Lung Association’s work to end lung disease they will host the Fight For Air Climb New York City at PENN1 on March 23, 2024

Registration is now open to teams and individuals at FightForAirClimb.org/NYC

This is the 14th year of the Fight For Air Climb NYC. For the event, participants will climb 1,210 steps up to the top of the skyscraper as an elite climber, a first responder, or a civilian. The event invites area firefighters and first responders to participate in the Firefighter Challenge, climbing the steps in full gear to raise critical awareness for occupational exposure and increased risk for lung disease in first responders.

“Our Fight for Air Climb events are for anyone and everyone that wants to raise awareness for lung disease,” said Erica Masin, executive director of the Lung Association in New York City. “In New York, we are especially proud to have a large firefighter and first responder community participate in the event, to remind the world that lung disease is a critical issue for so many heroes and their families. We are proud to climb alongside them as we work for a world free of lung disease.”

Lisa Bai, a long time participant in the Fight For Air Climb New York City said, “I started participating in the Fight For Air Climb in honor of my mom who suffered from chronic COPD. We ultimately lost her to this disease. Who knew I would be diagnosed with the same disease years later. The Lung Association makes my life easier through advocacy, prevention education and policy change. The event is not only an enormous amount of fun shared with my team, it makes me feel like someone cares if I can breathe.” Bai has been a Team Captain since 2016, having now raised over $70,000 for the Lung Association.

Joining the Fight For Air Climb supports the work of the Lung Association to defeat lung cancer, improve the air we breathe, reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families, and eliminate tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases.
