WASHINGTON, DC | June 25, 2019
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1119, the SENSE Act. Harold P. Wimmer, National President and CEO of the American Lung Association, issued the following statement in response:
"The House of Representatives today passed yet another attack on clean air protections that would make American families sick. The so-called SENSE Act is senseless; it would exempt power plants that burn coal waste from having to clean up dangerous air emissions, including air pollution that causes asthma attacks, heart attacks and lung cancer.
"This is the second time this week that the House of Representatives has voted to increase pollution instead of protecting children from air pollution that can be deadly.
"The Lung Association calls on the Senate to reject this harmful legislation. Further, we ask all members of Congress to oppose all legislation including appropriations policy riders that would result in more harmful pollution that puts our children at risk."
