Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Invests in Lung Health

Continues financial support to Lung Association’s efforts in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE, WI | April 26, 2023

The American Lung Association in Wisconsin announces that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has signed on as the Fight For Air Climb- Milwaukee presenting sponsor for the 15th year.

This is the 15th anniversary of the event which includes the Anthem Firefighter Challenge.  Participating firefighters will climb American Family Field in full gear weighing nearly 50 pounds on Saturday, May 20.

“I’m excited to challenge myself to do the climb at the age of 61,” said Jeff Markham, a Lauderdale-LaGrange firefighter. “I’ll be climbing to support people with lung disease but also in memory of my mother-in-law Laura “Lollie” Triebold who recently passed away from lung cancer.”

“Our long-standing relationship with the American Lung Association and the work we’ve done together to raise awareness for lung health highlights our commitment to building healthier Wisconsin communities,” said Julie Mitchell, M.D., medical director for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

Milwaukee’s Fight For Air Climb is the largest event of its kind in terms of fundraising and participants. It attracts thousands of climbers of all fitness levels and includes ages 6+ who want to help find a cure for lung disease.

“Events like the Fight For Air Climb help raise funding so that our organization can offer critical services and educational information about lung disease to the community,” said Megan Cordova, executive director of the Lung Association. “Without the continued support that we receive from local presenting sponsors like Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the events and services that we provide would not be possible.”

The first wave of climbers will begin making their way through American Family Field at 8:30 a.m. with the Anthem Firefighter Challenge set to begin around 10 a.m.
