Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of both women and men in the United States. It also has one of the lowest five-year survival rates of all cancer types. Our goal is to reduce lung cancer deaths and improve quality of life. Championing Clean Air for All

For nearly half of our history, the American Lung Association has battled air pollution. We work to ensure that the air we all breathe is clean and safe, so it will not cause or worsen lung disease. Creating a Tobacco-Free Future

Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Yet, every year more than 437,000 people die from tobacco-caused disease, and another 40,000 people die from exposure to secondhand smoke.  Among adults who smoke, 81 percent began smoking regularly at age 18 or younger, with the average age of daily smoking initiation for new smokers at 20 years.  The Lung Association is committed to helping smokers quit while working to protect everyone from secondhand smoke and prevent young people from starting, through efforts such as:
