This article makes the case that emphysema detection should become a routine part of lung cancer screening in patients who used to smoke. This is important because it takes advantage of data already collected in the process of lung cancer screening and paves the way for standardized screening and reporting, which can lead to earlier intervention of emphysema patients in a large population. This was a study of the Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Centers (ACRC).
