The American Lung Association announced today Wellpoint (formerly UniCare), a health benefits company serving Massachusetts state and municipal employees, retirees, and their families, is joining the annual Fight for Air Climb Boston as the Presenting Sponsor.  The Climb will take place at One Boston Place on Saturday March 9, 2024, from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The Climb will support the American Lung Association’s mission to save lives by preventing lung disease, with a fundraising goal of raising $250,000.  Participants - including many first responders and firefighters - will run or walk up 82 flights of stairs, totally 789 stairs to the top of the Boston skyscraper.

Registration is now open to individuals and teams at FightForAirClimb.org/boston

“Our Fight For Air Climb Boston aims to bring awareness to lung disease, and honor all those who have experienced lung disease, either personally or through a loved one. It also honors our first responders by highlighting the challenges they face during the call of duty.” said Ashley Carrier Executive Director, American Lung Association in Massachusetts. “Sponsors like Wellpoint empower us to broaden our reach, develop quality education and advocacy programs, and execute a truly fun and rewarding event for our community. We are so grateful to them for playing a part in our mission to save lives by improving lung health.”

The Fight For Air Climb is the American Lung Association’s signature event to raise money to help achieve their mission of saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.  Fight For Air Climb events happen around the county, where participants climb hundreds of stairs at iconic stadiums or buildings to do good and feel great. Each Fight For Air Climb event also includes a firefighter division where local firefighters race up hundreds of stairs in full gear.
”As a health benefits company, Wellpoint is committed to enhancing the lives of our members and the communities we serve,” said David Morales, general manager of Wellpoint. “We’re proud to serve as the presenting sponsor of this year’s Fight For Air Climb Boston and partner with the American Lung Association to raise awareness about lung disease as well as support first responders. Together, we can support vital respiratory research and improve health outcomes for all Massachusetts residents.”

The Lung Association has long been the trusted champion for lung health. More than 115 years ago, the organization pioneered the model of using education, advocacy, and research to virtually eradicate tuberculosis in the U.S. Using these same principles, the Lung Association works to save lives by improving lung health and ending all lung diseases, including COVID-19.
