Lung Association: Iowa’s Largest Casino Should Go Smokefree

In response to a news report about Iowa’s largest casino, Prairie Meadows, considering going smokefree, the American Lung Association in Iowa issued the following statement:

“We applaud Prairie Meadows for considering joining the more than 1,000 casinos across the country in ending indoor smoking. Research supports smokefree casinos. They protect the health of employees and patrons; attract new business from casino players who prefer a nonsmoking environment; and don’t rely on ventilation systems that simply don’t clear the air of harmful toxins and secondhand smoke. Moreover, their sales will not be negatively affected. We urge Prairie Meadows and all Iowa casinos to go smokefree and join the wave of smokefree casinos across the nation doing the same.”
