National Take the Stairs Day: Orlando Steps Up for Clean Air and Healthy Lungs This Year

American Lung Association encourages the Central Florida community to take the stairs and then support lung health by signing up for the Fight For Air Climb

This Wednesday, January 10 is National Take the Stairs Day, and the American Lung Association in Florida is challenging people across Central Florida to skip the elevator and take the stairs for clean air and healthy lungs. The community can further support lung health by registering for the Fight For Air Climb Orlando, presented by Eddie Fisher Wealth Strategies of Raymond James, on Saturday, February 17.

National Take the Stairs Day is an annual observance on the second Wednesday of January that gives people an opportunity to adopt healthy routines like taking the stairs. Stair climbing has significant health benefits, including improving balance and coordination strengthening major muscle groups. Consistent stair climbing as a daily activity can help lower mortality risk.

“Many people make resolutions to adopt healthier habits in the New Year, so National Take the Stairs Day is a fantastic way to kick off those goals, as well as exercise your lungs,” said Heather Earl, Fight For Air Climb volunteer leader. “We’re also inviting the Central Florida community to take it a step further by joining us for the Fight For Air Climb at City National Bank Tower in Orlando on February 17. It’s an opportunity to do good and feel great!”

This year marks the 17th anniversary of the Fight For Air Climb Orlando, the premier stair-climbing event in Central Florida. The climb is designed for every type of participant, from beginners to competitive climbers to first responders in full gear. Participants determine their pace. With 25 floors and 512 stairs, City National Bank Tower is the perfect setting for a day of fun, challenge and camaraderie.

Here in Florida, more than 2.7 million people live with lung disease, including lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Participation in the Fight For Air Climb Orlando provides critical funds to help the American Lung Association work to end lung disease and save lives through research, education and advocacy.
