DES MOINES, Iowa, IA | February 12, 2020
Today, the American Lung Association in Iowa announced an exciting route change to the Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Des Moines, set for March 29. Participants will still climb four towers, however, they will now climb Two Ruan Center, which provides a new and different challenge for climbers.
In the last 17 years, the event has grown from one building and 157 participants in 2003, to four buildings and more than 1,300 participants. For the last four years of the event, participants climbed EMC Insurance Companies, Financial Center, Hub Tower and the Ruan Center. The new route will take climbers up EMC Insurance companies, Hub Tower, Two Ruan Center and Ruan Center, for a total of 76 floors, 1,563 steps.
“The Fight For Air Climb is a truly iconic event in our state. We have many participants who have climbed every single year, so it is important for us to provide a fresh experience to our veteran climbers,” said Micki Sandquist, executive director for the Lung Association. “This is an event that continues to evolve and grow, so we are excited to have Two Ruan Center as one of our buildings for the 17th annual Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Des Moines.”
The new Fight For Air Climb route includes:
- EMC Insurance companies: 15 floors, 371 steps
- Hub Tower: 16 floors, 324 steps
- Two Ruan Center: 13 floors, 231 steps
- Ruan Center: 32 floors, 637 steps
Our company is dedicated to helping the local Des Moines community, and we are proud to have Two Ruan Center join as one of the four buildings for the Fight For Air Climb,” said John Ruan IV with Ruan Center Corporation. “We look forward to seeing the community in our stairwells on March 29.
The Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Des Moines, happening on March 29, invites individuals, families, groups of friends, corporate teams and first responders to step up the stairs of four of the tallest buildings in Iowa. The event increases awareness for lung disease, funds life-saving lung cancer research, and supports local programs that help children manage their asthma, facilitate support groups for adults with chronic lung disease, and help residents quit smoking.
