American Lung Association Statement on FDA Order Stopping Sale of Four Cigarette Products

The American Lung Association issued the following statement after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) halted the sale of four types of cigarette products: Camel Crush Bold, Pall Mall Deep Set Recessed Filter, Pall Mall Deep Set Recessed Filter Menthol and Vantage Tech 13 because the company’s submissions for these products did not meet requirements set forth in the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act:

“The American Lung Association commends the move of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to halt the sale of these tobacco products and protect our nation’s health. The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act requires the careful review of all new tobacco products, and this action by the FDA shows its commitment to enforcing the law. For decades the tobacco industry has introduced new products that both appeal to kids and are highly addictive. FDA's action to remove these products from the market are consistent with its bipartisan mandate and will protect our nation's health.

“The FDA can and must do more to further protect the public health by addressing unregulated tobacco products like e-cigarettes, hookah and cigars. The evidence is clear on the harmful, addictive nature of all tobacco products and the Obama Administration must act and allow FDA to finalize the long-overdue deeming rule to ensure the public is protected from the harmful effects of these products.”
