When I was first asked to be part of a clinical trial, I was a little bit nervous.

I felt scared.

And I wanted to do anything I could to help my COPD.

By participating in a clinical trial I learned a lot more about my lung disease and how important it is for patients to become involved.

I learned COPD tips from my doctor. I learned that diet, exercise - those all play into where your COPD is going to go years down the road. What I do today is going to affect me 10 years from now.

I've been in three different clinical trials. So after being in a clinical trial I understand my body a lot more and I haven't had an asthma attack in years.

One of the benefits for Alexis being in the clinical trial was that she earned extra spending money.

If I wouldn't have been in the clinical trial I never would have had the CAT Scans and the MRIs and all that one-on-one with the clinicians that worked with me for the year that I was in this trial - it's invaluable.

My clinical trial coordinator made me feel more comfortable by reassuring me that if my COPD got any worse - he would stop the trial.

The most memorable experience I had with being part of the clinical trial was when my daughter Alexis had an asthma attack and Michelle, our coordinator, was with me - over the phone all night long to ensure we got proper treatment. It was amazing how much she cared!

By participating in a clinical trial it made me feel very good about what I was doing for myself and for other patients. And I really think that it's something all patients should have a chance to do.
