Gaining Insight into Impact of E-Cigarettes on Lung Inflammation
We will focus on the impact of e-cigarette derived products on lung inflammation. We will test the substances generated during the use of e-cigarettes and how they initiate lung damage in a mouse model. We will examine specific proteins from samples of lower lungs, which are important in the ongoing lung inflammation observed in conventional cigarette-smoke related lung disease, and determine if these markers are elevated or modified with e-cigarette usage. Our studies will offer insight into the inflammatory biology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and toxicity of usage of e-cigarettes.
