Dr. Gupta Is On The Case
If Dr. Payel Gupta has one message for women, it's to trust your instincts.
"The reason that lung cancer patients die is because we detect the cancer too late," says Dr. Gupta.
Lung cancer often hides in the shadows, disguised as asthma or other symptoms.
"As an allergist, you might not think that I am on the frontlines," says Dr. Gupta, "but I am because we know that early detection is key to saving the lives of those at high risk for lung cancer. And so, it's my job to make sure that patients get screened when they need to."
"Everyone on the frontlines can discuss screening with patients who may be at high risk for lung cancer."
Gupta: They come to me because they think it's their asthma. But it's not always asthma. Reason that lung cancer patients die is because we detect the cancer too late. My name is Dr. Payel Gupta and my mission it to help save lives through early detection and prevention.
One of Dr. Gupta's key goals is to generate greater awareness of lung cancer and the danger it poses amongst her peers. The symptoms of lung cancer, particularly in the early stages, mimic a range of ailments, and it's not until the more advanced symptoms reveal themselves that many patients seek out the treatments they need.
But detection at that stage is often too late.
Working with LUNG FORCE, Dr. Gupta hopes to empower patients and her healthcare peers to ask the right questions and trust their instincts. And above all, seek out treatment and screening when appropriate as early as possible.
