Each morning, you can watch Leigh Spann deliver the weather on WFLA-TV, but now you can see her under different stage lights – singing and dancing for the American Lung Association’s virtual Lip Sync for Lungs event on January 21.
Spann is originally from Georgia but has spent the last 13 years in Tampa as a meteorologist for WFLA-TV. She is an animal lover, an avid runner, and the vice president of her running club, LOUD, which combines running and community service.
Through this love for health, wellness and community service, she connected with the Lung Association. On January 21, she will join other local celebrities to execute a lip sync performance to compete for the top spot of Lip Sync “VIRTUAL LIVE BATTLE” Champion. Spann gave a sneak peek of what her performance will entail.
“I plan to tie in what I do for a living to a hilarious rendition of a popular song,” she said.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting lung health is especially important to Spann.
“It is important to support the American Lung Association this year, specifically, with COVID-19 being a lung disease. This is a very small way that I can be involved with helping end this disease, which has impacted so many people’s lungs,” said Spann. “Running and general health is really important to me -- keep your body healthy, keep your lungs healthy.”
Money raised at the Lip Sync For Lungs will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
For the event, the celebrity with the most votes will win the top spot of Lip Sync “VIRTUAL LIVE BATTLE” Champion. Votes are $1 each, so $25 will get Spann 25 votes, and $100 will get her 100 votes. Learn more about the event, get tickets and vote for Leigh Spann at LipSyncForLungsTampa.org.
