Community engagement and a cause that hits close to home are a couple reasons why Stephanie Goudzwaard, marketing manager at Sikich, is rallying her team in this year’s Fight For Air Climb at American Family Field on May 22.
“Everybody feels a personal connection to the Lung Association,” Goudzwaard said. “With family members and friends impacted by lung illnesses, this event is an opportunity to support our loved ones by raising money for research to end lung disease.”
Team Sikich Stair Force consisted of 17 members in 2020 and raised more than $3,800. This year’s team aims to raise another $3,000 for life-saving research.
“Our biggest fundraising activity is our pie in the face event, where employees donate money in exchange for getting to ‘pie’ one of the partners,” Goudzwaard said. “Sikich is honored to bring awareness to the Lung Association’s mission and to help the association continue to support COVID-19 research.”
This year’s event will be the firm’s fourth Fight For Air Climb.
“Our Milwaukee office’s Focus on Raising Community Engagement (FORCE) initiative encourages employees to actively participate in volunteering and charitable giving.” Goudzwaard said.
In addition to the in-person event at American Family Field, the Lung Association is also offering a “Climb Your Way” option for those who can’t make it to the physical event.
“We’re excited to get active and get outside through the ‘Climb Your Way’ option,” Goudzwaard said. “We’re also excited to attract new climbers, potentially even across other offices at Sikich.”
Registration for the event is open and offers a 1,407 stair climb with the option to climb an additional 417 on the terrace level of the stadium.
Masks will be required at the event and social distancing will be practiced. The safety of participants, staff and volunteers is always our number one priority, so we are continually monitoring local conditions that might affect the Climb. Everyone is encouraged to check our Climb website for the most up-to-date information leading up to the event.
Money raised at the Fight For Air Climb will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative, a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics.
Registration for the Fight For Air Climb is $35 and includes a $100 fundraising minimum. For more information, and to register, visit FightForAirClimb.org/Milwaukee.
