PHILADELPHIA, PA | August 31, 2021
Today, the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania announced that registration is now open for the Radnor Run and that there is a new location for the Packet Pick-up Party, hosted by IM | Health. After being moved to a virtual event last year, due to COVID-19, the beloved Radnor Run community event will take place at the Radnor Township Building & Grounds as an outdoor, in-person event on Sunday, October 31, 2021, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The event fundraising goal is to raise $120,000 to support research, advocacy and education for lung diseases, including lung cancer and COVID-19. All participants will be required to follow current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and state and local guidelines.
The Radnor Run is in its 44th year, with in-person event participants completing a timed and certified 5-mile race on a challenging course through the beautiful backroads of Wayne, PA; or an untimed 2-Mile Trail Walk for adults and youths of all ages on the scenic and stroller/wheelchair accessible Radnor Trail; and for ages 12 & under, a ½ Mile Kids Fun Run where all finishers receive a medal. Registrants can also opt to participate virtually in their own neighborhoods. All registered participants are encouraged to join the event’s Facebook group for training tips and event updates.
“Through events like the Radnor Run, we are able to continue our work to improve air quality, educate residents on lung health and COVID-19, and support people who live with lung disease,” said Caroline Hutchinson, executive director for the Lung Association in Pennsylvania. “That mission has never been more important than it is today, and we are looking forward to rallying runners and the community to advance this work that makes people’s lives better every day.”
New this year, the annual race Packet Pick-Up Party will be hosted by IM | Health and held at their newly constructed, one-of-a-kind, three-story brick office building on Friday, October 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at 372 W. Lancaster Avenue in Wayne PA. Participants can pick up their T-shirt and race bib to avoid morning of event lines. Pick-Up Party attendees will be provided with complimentary drinks and snacks, a facility tour and meet and greet opportunities. Virtual participants who register by October 15, 2021 will be mailed a T-shirt and race bib.
“We’re thrilled to play a part in a search for a cure and couldn’t be happier to partner with the American Lung Association. Our missions align so nicely – both trying to save lives and prevent disease. IM | Health is a unique primary care center in Wayne, PA where we take a multi-disciplinary approach to helping our patients live longer and better. The cause of the American Lung Association is also personal for me, as I lost my father, who was a non-smoker, to lung cancer in 2012,” said Rock Walker, physician and founder of IM | Health.
Money raised at the Radnor Run will support the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
Registration is online at Lung.org/radnorrun. The fee for the event is $35 for 5-Mile Race, $20 for 2-Mile Trail Walk, and $15 for ½ Mile Kids Fun Run. Participants who raise a $100 or more will have their name placed on a star at Start/Finish area Wall of Fame. The Radnor Run is sponsored by IM | Health, Brandywine Realty Trust, Penn Medicine, Radnor Township and other generous area sponsors.
