HARRISBURG, PA | May 25, 2021
The American Lung Association in Pennsylvania LUNG FORCE Walk Harrisburg will take place on June 5, 2021 at City Island – Carousel Pavilion and will now include a 5K Run. The event—now called LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Harrisburg—will support research, advocacy and education for lung diseases, lung cancer and COVID-19. All participants will be required to follow current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
The LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Harrisburg is in its 7th year, with registrants completing a 5K loop, beginning at the City Island Carousel Pavilion and back. LUNG FORCE Heroes will share their stories and a LUNG FORCE Action passport that encourages lung health education from different tents and vendors on site. Registrants can also opt to “Walk Your Way,” and participate by walking in their own neighborhoods, tracking their activity online through the new LUNG FORCE app (available for Android or iPhone).
“Through events like the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Harrisburg, we are able to continue our work to improve air quality, educate residents on lung health and COVID-19, and support people who live with lung disease,” said American Lung Association in Pennsylvania Executive Director Caroline Hutchinson. “This mission has never been more important than it is today, and we are looking forward to masking up and rallying our Harrisburg based LUNG FORCE community to advance this work that makes people’s lives better every day.”
Pat London, York, PA resident and LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Harrisburg participant said, “The American Lung Association’s Lung Force Walk provides additional focus on lung cancers; helps to raise money for research, education and patient support. I personally have benefited from knowledge provided on non-small cell lung cancer with ALK mutation and the Lung Association partner website Inspire. My life expectancy of three years has been surpassed due to the American Lung Association. I walk because I can breathe! To learn more about Pat’s story, visit here.
Money raised at the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
The registration fee for the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Harrisburg 5K for the run option is $25. There is no registration fee for participants who want to walk the route, but donations are encouraged. More information and registration are available at LUNGFORCE.org/harrisburg. The presenting sponsor is UPMC, other sponsors include Genentech, Capital Blue Cross Blue Shield Grudi Associates and Veracyte.
