AdventHealth Physician Presents on Clinical Trials in Lung Cancer Patient Virtual Meetup Webinar

On Thursday, December 14, the American Lung Association will host a virtual program titled, “Clinical Trials: Why It's Important to Participate” featuring Dr. Mark A. Socinski, executive medical director at AdventHealth Cancer Institute. This is part of the Lung Association’s Lung Cancer Patient Virtual Meetup series, which features both live and recorded events to educate patients and caregivers.

During the event, Dr. Socinski will cover the benefits of clinical trials and how to decide if they're right for you. Clinical trials are regulated research studies that try to find better ways to prevent, screen for, diagnose or treat a disease. These critical studies answer specific questions about new interventions—which can be new vaccines, drugs and devices—and measure their effectiveness and safety for patients.

“Lung cancer research continues to move at a rapid pace, contributing to the declining cancer death rate in recent years. We are learning more about lung cancer, and researchers are working hard to find treatments to help save and extend the lives of lung cancer patients. Clinical trials are the cornerstone of this research effort and often provide the best treatment option available for people facing lung cancer,” said Kathleen Skambis, member of the Lung Association’s Central Florida Leadership Board and lung cancer survivor. “We are grateful for AdventHealth’s partnership on this national event and are honored to have Dr. Socinski lend his expertise to make clinical trials approachable to our audience.”

The Lung Association’s Lung Cancer Patient Virtual Meetup series is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of lung cancer patients and caregivers nationwide. The sessions are held live, then recorded and distributed for people to watch on their own time. Sessions are available to view here.
