American Lung Association Commends New York City for Expanding Vaccine Requirements

Today, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that he will require COVID-19 vaccinations for private employers and expanded the indoor entertainment vaccine requirement to apply to everyone 5 and over. This is in addition to the previous vaccine mandate for city workers and indoor entertainment rules.

In response, American Lung Association President and CEO Harold Wimmer issued the following statement:

“We commend New York City for continuing to put public health first as we work to end the COVID-19 pandemic and face emerging variants like Omicron. The American Lung Association strongly supports efforts to get Americans vaccinated, as the science proves that these measures save lives.

“In addition to getting vaccinated, we encourage everyone to continue to rigorously follow the CDC recommendations to reduce the risk of getting COVID-19 by wearing a mask according to CDC guidelines, maintaining social distancing, washing your hands often, and staying home if you feel unwell.

“Together, we can slow the spread of COVID-19 and end this global pandemic through widespread vaccination and other proven preventive measures.”
