American Lung Association’s Pierra Moise Receives Honors at Poway Chamber Business Star Awards

Non-profit organization protecting lung health in Poway recognized at annual event

The American Lung Association’s health promotions specialist Pierra Moise received the “Thank You For Your Service Award” at the Poway Chamber of Commerce Business Star Awards held June 25 at the Bernardo Winery. The annual event, which honors the best in local businesses and non-profit organizations, recognized the Lung Association and Moise for their contributions to the community.

“We’re very thankful for this honor and proud of the hardworking staff in Poway,” said Brian Le, health promotions manager with the Lung Association. The Lung Association works on various lung health initiatives in Poway, including educating the public about the dangers of smoking and vaping and the importance of smokefree outdoor dining policies for restaurants.

The Lung Association received three nominations for the “Roaring 20’s”-themed 2021 Business Star Awards, including one for the category of “Best Non-Profit Member Award.” The other two nominations for the “Thank You for Your Service Award” and the “Vern Marston Volunteer of the Year Award” were for Moise, who works passionately on community issues in Poway. Notably, Moise is actively engaged in all six chamber subcommittees, the Poway Kiwanis Board, and the Poway Women Supporting Women’s group. She also mentors Poway Unified School District high school students as part of a public health volunteer project for the Lung Association.

“It’s been a privilege to be actively involved in the Poway Chamber and so many important local service projects,” said Moise. “I’ve valued the opportunity to serve with great Powegians and to protect public health from the dangers of commercial tobacco use.”
